Black Pepper Beef Lo Mein
Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- Olive oil
- 16 oz Lo mein noodles
- 10-12 oz flank steak or flat iron steak - sliced against the grain into 1/8-inch slices
- 1 yellow onion - sliced
- 3 cloves garlic - sliced
- 1 red bell pepper - sliced
- 1 large carrot - shredded
- 2 cups bok choy leaves or small broccoli florets
- 2 green onions - chopped
Beef Marinade:
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tsp corn starch
Sauce Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp white pepper - optional
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp beef bouillon
- 1/2 tsp crushed chili flakes
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 2 tbsp water
Instructions
Cook the noodles:
- Cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Marinate the beef:
- In a large bowl, combine the beef slices with all marinade ingredients. Mix until evenly coated, then drizzle in 2 teaspoons of olive oil and mix again. Set aside to marinate for 10–15 minutes.
Prepare the sauce:
- In a separate bowl, combine all sauce ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
Cook the vegetables:
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and garlic and sauté for 2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the bell pepper, shredded carrots, and bok choy (or broccoli florets), and sauté for another 2 minutes. Add a splash of water and continue to cook for 1-2 minutes to slightly soften the veggies. Transfer vegetables to a plate and set aside.
Cook the beef:
- In the same pan, add 2 more tablespoons of oil. Add the marinated beef and sear until browned and just cooked through.
Combine everything:
- Return the cooked vegetables to the pan along with the cooked lo mein noodles. Pour the prepared sauce over everything and toss until everything is evenly coated and glossy.
Finish & serve:
- Sprinkle chopped green onions on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
