Ground Beef Stuffed Bell Peppers with Soy Glaze, Japanese-Style

 

Ground Beef Stuffed Bell Peppers

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients:

  • 3 bell peppers - halved lengthwise
  • 1 lb ground pork or beef
  • 1/2 white onion - minced
  • 3 tbsp panko bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • corn starch or flour for dusting
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp mirin - optional
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tbsp water

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, add all the sauce ingredients and mix until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, add ground pork/beef, minced onions, panko bread crumbs, egg, a pinch of salt, a pinch of black pepper, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon oyster sauce. Use your hands to mix and knead the ground meat until everything is fully incorporated.
  • Dust the inside of each bell pepper half with a thin layer of corn starch or flour. This will help the meat stick to the bell peppers better.
  • Fully stuffed each prepared bell peppers with ground meat mixture. Use the back of a spoon to press down and flatten the meat mixture. Lightly cover the surface with corn starch or flour.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large non-stick pan or skillet over medium heat, place the stuff peppers in the pan, meat-side down.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for about 4-5 minutes over low-medium heat until the surface of the meat is golden brown. Flip them over, cover with lid again and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the bell pepper skin is charred.
  • Pour in prepared sauce cook for about 1 minute. Flip the stuffed peppers over again, and let them cook for another 1-2 minutes in the sauce until sauce starts to thicken.
  • Plate the stuffed peppers and drizzle the extra sauce over the top. Garnish with some roasted sesame seeds, if desired. Enjoy!
