🍽 How to Make Egg Roll Lettuce Wraps

Step 1: Cook the Meat

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and break it into small pieces. Season with salt, black pepper, and ginger. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 2: Sauté the Veggies

In the same pan, wipe out any excess moisture if needed. Add sesame oil and diced red onion. Sauté for 3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the coleslaw mix and cook until wilted but still a little crisp.

Step 3: Combine with Sauce

Return the cooked meat to the pan. Add all the sauce ingredients and stir until everything is evenly coated and warmed through.

Step 4: Assemble Your Wraps

Scoop 3–4 tablespoons of filling into each lettuce leaf. Top with chopped cilantro, green onions, and a drizzle of Sriracha if desired.

🥡 Tips, Storage, & Meal Prep For Egg Roll Lettuce Wraps

  • Lettuce type: Butter lettuce holds its shape best, but iceberg offers great crunch!

  • Make ahead: Cook the filling and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or on a pan and serve in fresh lettuce.

  • Want extra crunch? Top with chopped peanuts or crispy shallots.

FAQ

Can I make these vegetarian or vegan?

Yes! Use crumbled tofu or a plant-based ground meat substitute. Swap oyster sauce for mushroom stir-fry sauce or hoisin.

Which chili crisp do you recommend?

My personal favorite is the Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp. It’s super flavorful with just the right balance of heat and umami. You can find it at most major grocery stores in the US or grab a jar on Amazon here.

How do I keep the lettuce cups from tearing?

Gently rinse each lettuce leaf and pat the lettuce leaves dry after rinsing. Make sure to not overfill each wrap.
