Heat the olive oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the butter and the green beans. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Pour in the chicken broth. Add the garlic powder, smoked paprika, chicken bouillon, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.
Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for 30-35 minutes, or until the green beans are very tender. Add a splash of water or broth halfway through if needed.
Taste and adjust seasoning as desired. Serve and enjoy!
